Short-term accommodation in the City of Vancouver carries a temporary Major Events MRDT of 2.5 percent, on top of PST and the regular MRDT, from February 2023 to January 2030. Online platforms that are registered collect PST and MRDT on bookings made through them, but you collect on direct bookings. In Zoho Books we set each tax on its own line and keep platform and direct sales apart. Rules change, so confirm with your accountant.

Crews, holidays and WorkSafeBC in Vancouver

Vancouver employers deal with crews that change fast, from film sets to building sites. Any business that hires workers, including part-time, casual or contract staff, must register with WorkSafeBC. BC has 11 statutory holidays, including BC Day and the National Day for Truth and Reconciliation, and statutory holiday pay equals an average day's pay for staff who qualify.
