Zoho for Ontario businesses: HST, EHT and ESA in one setup
Ontario has almost every kind of business Zoho is used for. Parts makers and food plants run along the 401, growers work the southwest, contractors build across the Golden Horseshoe, and clinics serve every town. What ties them together is one set of provincial rules: a single HST with a few point-of-sale rebates, a provincial payroll tax, the Employment Standards Act and WSIB. Much of the friction in Ontario setups comes from these rules living in spreadsheets beside the system. We build them into Zoho Books, Zoho People and your payroll, so pay statements, vacation pay and tax lines come out right every time.
Auto parts suppliers
Parts suppliers in Windsor, Oshawa and along the 401 run tight schedules for assembly plants. Zoho Inventory tracks part revisions and lot numbers, Zoho Creator handles production and quality checks, and Zoho Books invoices US customers in USD while recording HST on Ontario purchases.
Contractors and trades
Ontario contractors need a valid WSIB clearance for each subcontractor for the whole job. Zoho CRM manages bids, Zoho Projects tracks jobs and change orders, and Zoho Creator stores clearance numbers with expiry reminders, since clearances last up to 90 days.

Personal health information in Ontario falls under PHIPA. Zoho CRM and Zoho Bookings handle referrals and appointments with role-based access, so front desk staff see schedules but not clinical notes. Most licensed medical and dental services are GST/HST exempt, which shapes how Zoho Books is set up.
Farms and growers
Growers selling to grocers and packers need orders, grading and seasonal crews in one place. Zoho Inventory tracks harvest lots, Zoho Books invoices buyers with zero-rated basic groceries kept apart, and Zoho People records seasonal hours. The ESA has special rules for agricultural employees, so we map pay rules with your payroll provider.
HST, EHT and point-of-sale rebates in Ontario
Ontario uses a single 13% HST, administered by the CRA, so most invoices carry one tax line. The exception is the point-of-sale rebate of the 8% provincial part on items such as books, children's clothing and footwear, diapers, children's car seats and qualifying food and beverages. We put those items on their own tax rate in Zoho Books so invoices and returns stay correct. Ontario also charges Employer Health Tax on Ontario payroll. Eligible employers get an exemption, larger payrolls pay monthly instalments, and the annual return is due by March 15. We tag payroll journals in Zoho Books so EHT figures are easy to pull. Confirm the treatment with your accountant.
Ontario ESA and WSIB rules in Zoho
Ontario's Employment Standards Act asks for a written wage statement on or before each pay day, showing gross pay, each deduction and net pay. Vacation pay is at least 4% of wages, or 6% after five years, and must be shown separately when paid on each cheque. Since July 2025, employers with 25 or more employees must give new hires written details such as pay, pay day and expected hours before day one. Most businesses must register with WSIB within 10 calendar days of hiring a first employee. Zoho People holds leave balances, offer letters and onboarding tasks, and Zoho Payroll or your provider runs the pay.
Tools you probably connect
Ontario teams often connect Zoho to Shopify, Stripe and Square, to their bank feeds, and to a payroll provider they already use. Manufacturers ask about linking Zoho Inventory with EDI partners and US carriers. Common migrations are QuickBooks Desktop and Sage 50 to Zoho Books, and spreadsheets or older CRMs to Zoho CRM, with history kept for audit.

Yes. We create a rate for the federal part only and apply it to rebate items such as books or children's clothing, so the provincial part is not charged. Your accountant confirms the item list.
Do we need an electronic monitoring policy in Ontario?
Employers with 25 or more employees in Ontario on January 1 need a written policy on whether and how they monitor staff electronically. We store it in Zoho People and track that each employee receives it within 30 days.
