Should UAE Businesses Buy Zoho Direct or Through a Partner?

By Harikrishnan, Founder & Chief Zoho Consultant, Flowpeak · 10+ years in Zoho · Published · Last updated

Both work. Buying direct from Zoho keeps billing and upgrades in your hands. Buying through a partner can be convenient, but if the partner pays with its own card, later upgrades may have to go through that partner. Whichever you choose, make sure your company owns the account and holds administrator access.

This post is for founders, finance managers and IT leads in the UAE who have been offered Zoho licences as part of an implementation package, or who are deciding whether to buy online themselves. Reseller offers are common in Dubai, Abu Dhabi and Sharjah, and the billing route you pick affects who can upgrade, renew or cancel later. You will learn how partner billing works according to Zoho's own documentation, what a partner can and cannot see, the UAE points to raise with your accountant, and a checklist to use before you sign.

What are the ways to buy Zoho licences in the UAE?

There are two main routes. You can sign up and pay online, directly with Zoho, from inside the app or from Zoho's website. Or a Zoho partner can buy and manage the subscription for you through the Zoho Partner Store, the platform Zoho provides for partners to transact with Zoho and fulfil customer orders.

Partner Store purchases come in two forms, according to Zoho's documentation. In the first, the partner pays with its own card and is charged a partner price. In the second, the partner processes the order using the customer's card, and the charges and invoices go to the customer. The difference matters more than most buyers expect.

Licence prices are not covered here. Check the official Zoho pricing page for your region.

What changes when a partner pays for your licences?

Zoho's Partner Store help explains that when a partner upgrades an account with its own card, the account is tagged as a reseller card account. From then on, upgrades for that account can only be made through the Partner Store. If someone in your team tries to upgrade from inside the Zoho app, they see a message asking them to contact the partner.

That is not a problem while the relationship is good. It becomes one if the partner is slow to respond, closes, or you want to move your implementation work elsewhere.

It also affects day-to-day changes. Adding a user for a new hire, adding storage or switching on another app all count as purchases. If each one needs a request to the partner, small changes can wait days. Ask any partner offering to hold your billing how quickly they process these requests, and what happens during Eid and other UAE public holidays.

Can a partner see your data if they manage your subscription?

No, not through the subscription alone. Zoho's partner help pages state that once you are tagged to a partner, the partner can manage your subscription but cannot access your Zoho apps or confidential business data. To configure anything, the partner needs a user account inside your organisation, which your administrators add and can remove.

Keep these two things separate in your head and in your contract. Billing control and system access are different, and you can give a partner one without the other.

If you want a Zoho partner for UAE businesses to implement Zoho without handling your licences, say so at the start. Many companies prefer to keep billing direct and pay the partner only for services.

What should UAE businesses check with their accountant?

A few UAE-specific points are worth confirming before you choose a billing route:

  • VAT: if you buy from a UAE VAT-registered partner, ask for a tax invoice. If the supplier is outside the UAE, services bought by a VAT-registered business are usually handled under the reverse charge. Your accountant should confirm the treatment.
  • Currency: check the official Zoho pricing page for your region to see which currency applies, and compare like for like if a partner quotes a bundle.
  • Data location: Zoho announced in January 2026 that it had opened data centres in Abu Dhabi and Dubai. Ask during sign-up which data centre your account will use, especially if you work in a regulated sector.
  • Records: whoever receives the licence invoices, make sure copies reach your finance team for VAT and corporate tax records.

What should you check before signing a licence and implementation bundle?

Bundles that combine licences and setup can be good value, but read the terms. Use this checklist:

  1. Confirm the Zoho organisation is created in your company's name, with a director or senior manager as the owner.
  2. Ask whose card will pay Zoho, and get the answer in writing.
  3. Ask for the edition, the number of users and the renewal date of each app.
  4. Agree what happens to billing if either side ends the services contract.
  5. Make sure at least two of your own staff hold administrator rights.
  6. Ask the partner to list any third-party apps or extensions that carry their own subscriptions.
  7. Keep the implementation price separate from the licence price on the quote, so you can compare offers.

What mistakes do UAE companies make when buying Zoho?

None of these is hard to avoid. They come from treating the licence purchase as a formality rather than part of the project.

  • Letting the partner create the organisation under the partner's own email address.
  • Buying a higher edition than needed because it came in a bundle, without checking which features you will use.
  • Assuming the partner can see and fix data because they handle billing.
  • Not knowing the renewal date until a card fails and users are locked out.
  • Buying apps for every department on day one when only one team is ready to start.

How does Flowpeak handle licences for UAE clients?

Flowpeak works with UAE businesses remotely from Chennai, India, over video calls. India is one and a half hours ahead of the UAE, so most of the working day overlaps. We usually recommend that clients buy licences directly from Zoho in their own name, and we help them choose the edition and number of users before they pay, so the licence matches the plan.

We are paid for the implementation, not tied to who holds your billing. Zoho CRM standard setup starts at AED 1,850, and most CRM projects go live within two weeks, with integrations, complex workflows and Blueprints adding time. Frequently asked questions

Is Zoho cheaper through a reseller in the UAE?

Sometimes a partner bundles licences with setup or support, but the comparison only works if you separate the two. Ask for the licence cost and the services cost as separate lines, then check the licence part against the official Zoho pricing page for your region.

Can I move my Zoho billing from a partner to my own company?

Usually yes, but it needs the partner's cooperation and sometimes Zoho's. Accounts tagged to a partner are handled by Zoho's partner operations team, and requests to untag a partner are validated before processing. Start the conversation well before your renewal date.

Who owns my data if a partner pays for my Zoho licences?

Your data belongs to your business and sits in your Zoho organisation. The billing route does not change that. What matters is who owns the organisation and holds administrator rights, so make sure those are people in your company from day one.

Does Zoho sell directly to UAE businesses?

Yes. You can sign up online and pay Zoho directly, and Zoho has a regional presence in Dubai. You can still hire a partner only for implementation and training while keeping the subscription in your own name.
