Zoho Sprints Agile Guide: Backlogs, Boards, Releases and Reports
By Harikrishnan, Founder & Chief Zoho Consultant, Flowpeak · 10+ years in Zoho · Published · Last updated
Zoho Sprints is Zoho's agile tool for Scrum, Kanban or a mix of both. Teams keep work items in a backlog, estimate them with points, plan sprints, run them on a board with custom statuses, track releases, and review velocity, burndown and burnup reports. It imports from Jira and connects to GitHub, GitLab, Bitbucket and Jenkins.

This guide is for engineering managers, product owners and IT leads who want to run agile delivery in Zoho Sprints, or who are weighing it against Jira. You will see how Scrum terms map to Zoho Sprints features, how to set up a first project, which reports matter in sprint reviews, how it works with developer tools and other Zoho apps, and when Zoho Projects is the better fit. Feature names follow Zoho's own Sprints pages and help documents as of November 2026. Edition limits change, so check Zoho's pricing page before you plan.
What is Zoho Sprints, and who is it for?
Zoho Sprints is an agile project management app for teams that plan and deliver work in short cycles. Zoho describes it as supporting Scrum, Kanban and hybrid workflows in one workspace, so a team can run sprints for feature work and a Kanban board for support tickets side by side.
It suits software teams, IT teams and product groups of most sizes. It is less suited to fixed-date, dependency-heavy projects such as a fit-out or an ERP rollout plan. Those usually sit better in Zoho Projects, which is built around Gantt charts, milestones and baselines.
Zoho also describes client and vendor portals, so outside stakeholders can follow progress without full workspace access. That is useful for agencies and IT service firms that build software for clients.
Zoho offers a free tier for very small teams and paid editions priced per user. Zoho Sprints is also included in Zoho Projects Plus and Zoho One. Check Zoho's pricing page for current editions in your region.
How do Scrum terms map to Zoho Sprints features?
Most Scrum concepts have a direct home in Zoho Sprints. The names are slightly different in places, which matters when you train the team.
| Concept | In Zoho Sprints | Notes |
|---|---|---|
| Product backlog | Backlog | Unplanned work items, ordered by priority |
| User story, bug, task | Work items | Each item sits in the backlog until planned |
| Large feature | Epics | Break large stories into smaller items |
| Story points | Estimation points | Fibonacci or custom series |
| Sprint board | Scrum board | Custom workflow statuses |
| Flow board | Kanban board | Work-in-progress limits |
| Release plan | Release management | Plan and track incremental releases |
| Ceremonies | Meetings | Stand-ups, reviews and retrospectives |
| Time logs | Timesheet | Hours per work item, with approval |
Zoho's help documents say Sprints uses estimation points rather than time to weigh work items. That keeps planning in line with standard Scrum practice, while timesheets still record actual hours for billing or cost tracking.
How do you set up your first project in Zoho Sprints?
Start with one team and one project. Copying an old tool's structure in full on day one usually brings its clutter with it.
- Create the project and choose Scrum, Kanban or both, based on how the team actually works today.
- Add team members and set roles, including who can plan sprints and approve timesheets.
- Agree which work item types you will use and set workflow statuses. Keep statuses close to your real stages, such as To do, In progress, In review and Done.
- Choose an estimation scale, Fibonacci or a custom series, and agree as a team what one point means.
- Build the backlog, group large items into epics, and order by priority.
- Plan the first sprint with a realistic capacity, then start it and use the board daily.
- Connect your code repository and CI tool so commits and builds appear against work items.
- Hold a review and retrospective, then adjust statuses and estimation before sprint two.
Which Zoho Sprints reports help you run better sprints?
Three reports carry most sprint reviews. The velocity report shows how many points the team completed in past sprints, which Zoho says can forecast future capacity. Burndown and burnup charts compare completed work against an ideal line during a sprint, so you see slippage while there is still time to act. For Kanban, Zoho lists cycle time, lead time and cumulative flow diagrams.
Capacity planning sits alongside these reports. Zoho says Sprints helps you spot imbalances during planning and reassign work items to people with spare capacity. Set each person's available hours per sprint before planning, allowing for holidays and support duty.
Use reports as a conversation starter, not a scorecard. Velocity is a planning number for one team. Comparing it across teams with different estimation habits produces misleading conclusions. Common mistakes to avoid:
- Changing the estimation scale mid-project, which breaks velocity history.
- Adding work to a running sprint without removing something else.
- Leaving finished items in review, which makes burndown look worse than reality.
- Skipping retrospectives once the tool is in place.
Fix these habits first, and the reports start to reflect how the team really works.
If you need to combine sprint data with finance or support data, Zoho Sprints lists an integration with Zoho Analytics. Our Zoho Analytics implementation page explains how cross-app dashboards are usually built.
How does Zoho Sprints compare with Jira?
Jira, from Atlassian, is the most widely known agile tool. Atlassian lists boards, timelines, burndown reports, custom automations, Rovo AI and more than 3,000 Marketplace integrations. If your developers rely on specific Marketplace apps, check whether you can live without them before switching.
Zoho Sprints covers the core Scrum and Kanban workflow and lists integrations with GitHub, GitLab, Bitbucket, Jenkins, Azure DevOps and AWS CodeCommit, plus Microsoft Teams and Google Workspace. It also offers a Jira import. Its strongest case is for companies already on Zoho, where Sprints sits alongside Zoho Desk, Cliq, Analytics and Flow without extra connectors.
When you compare, run the same two-week sprint in both tools with the same team. Check how quickly developers can update items, how the board handles your statuses, and whether commit links and build results show up where people look. Those daily details matter more than long feature lists.
Both price per user with several plans. Check each vendor's pricing page rather than relying on figures in articles, including this one.
Should you use Zoho Sprints or Zoho Projects?
Use Zoho Sprints when work arrives as a changing backlog and is delivered in short cycles. Use Zoho Projects when work follows a plan with dates, dependencies, milestones and client billing. Many companies need both: Projects for client implementations and Sprints for the internal product team. Zoho bundles the two in Zoho Projects Plus.
If you run both, agree which app owns which kind of work, and avoid tracking the same item in two places. A client implementation might live in Projects, while the change requests it creates for the product team move to the Sprints backlog.
Our Zoho Projects setup guide covers the Projects side if you are running both.

Frequently asked questions
Can we move our Jira projects into Zoho Sprints?
Zoho Sprints offers a Jira import. Test it with one project first and check how custom fields, attachments and history come across before moving everything.
Does Zoho Sprints support story points?
Yes. Zoho calls them estimation points and lets you use a Fibonacci or custom series.
Can one team run Scrum and Kanban at the same time?
Yes. Zoho says Sprints supports Scrum, Kanban and hybrid workflows in one workspace, so a team can run sprints and a flow board together.
Is Zoho Sprints included in Zoho One?
Zoho lists Sprints as part of Zoho One and Zoho Projects Plus. Check Zoho's current bundle pages, as bundle contents can change.
Does Zoho Sprints track time?
Yes. The Timesheet feature logs hours per work item, and admins can approve or reject entries.
