Zoho CRM
Will Zoho Set It Up for You, or Do You Need a Partner?
By Harikrishnan, Founder & Chief Zoho Consultant, Flowpeak · 10+ years in Zoho · Published · Last updated
Partly. Paid Zoho CRM customers get free onboarding sessions where a specialist guides you, but Zoho states the specialist will not implement the CRM for you. Zoho also sells a paid Jumpstart service for a few products in some regions. For multi-app setups, custom code, migrations and most other products, businesses use a Zoho partner.

This guide is for business owners and managers who have just bought Zoho, or are about to, and want to know how much setup help comes from Zoho itself. It explains what the free onboarding sessions include, what the paid Jumpstart service covers, which products have no Zoho-run implementation, and how these options compare with hiring a partner. You will also find the mistakes that waste the free help, and a simple way to decide which route fits your project.
What setup help does Zoho give for free?
For Zoho CRM, Zoho runs a free onboarding programme for paid customers. According to Zoho's onboarding page, it consists of four one-to-one online sessions of 60 minutes each, covering basics such as users, roles and pipelines; data import, email and webforms; automation such as workflow rules, assignment rules and Blueprint; and Zia, Marketplace extensions and the Developer Hub. You receive recordings after each session.
The limits are clear on Zoho's own page. The sessions must be used within 15 days of purchase, the booking link goes to the super admin's email, and the onboarding specialist "will not implement Zoho CRM for you". Configuration that needs custom code is excluded.
Paid editions also include Zoho's standard support plan, which Zoho lists as eight hours a day, five days a week. Support answers product questions and fixes platform issues. It does not configure your account to match your processes.
What is Zoho Jumpstart, and what does it cover?
Jumpstart is Zoho's paid setup service, delivered by Zoho's in-house team. Zoho's Jumpstart page lists Zoho CRM, Bigin, Zoho Desk, Zoho CRM Plus and Zoho Backstage, and Zoho POS has its own Jumpstart page. Engagements start at a minimum of 10 hours, and the price depends on scope.
The process Zoho describes runs in five steps:
- Requirement gathering with a Jumpstart specialist.
- A statement of work that defines what will be built.
- Product setup and customisation after the contract is signed.
- User training and onboarding.
- Project sign-off, followed by seven days of post-implementation support.
Two points to note before you rely on it. Zoho says refunds cannot be processed once you have enrolled, and the service is not available in every region. Check availability on the Jumpstart page for your country.
How do onboarding, Jumpstart and a partner compare?
Each option is useful for a different job. The table summarises the main differences, based on Zoho's published descriptions.
| Point | Free onboarding | Zoho Jumpstart | Zoho partner |
|---|---|---|---|
| Who does the configuration | You, with guidance | Zoho's team | The partner |
| Products | Zoho CRM | CRM, Bigin, Desk, CRM Plus, Backstage, POS | Any Zoho app, including Zoho Books, Creator and Zoho One |
| Custom code and Deluge | Excluded | Per statement of work | Usually included when scoped |
| Third-party integrations | Marketplace walkthrough | Included in scope | Included in scope |
| Data migration | Import guidance | Per statement of work | Usually offered |
| Support after go-live | Standard Zoho support | Seven days | Agreed plan or hourly |
| Availability | Paid CRM customers | Selected regions | Depends on the partner |
To be fair to Zoho's service: Jumpstart gives you people who work on the product every day and a direct line to the vendor, which is a real strength for a single-product setup. A partner tends to be stronger when the project crosses several apps, needs scripting or connects to outside systems.
Which route fits your situation?
Use this as a rough guide:
- Small team, standard sales process, someone with time to learn: free onboarding and Zoho's help documents may be enough.
- One product such as Zoho CRM or Zoho Desk, in a region where Jumpstart is offered, with a clear scope: Jumpstart is worth a quote.
- Several apps such as Zoho CRM, Zoho Books and Zoho Inventory working together, or Zoho One across departments: a partner.
- A migration from Salesforce, HubSpot, QuickBooks or spreadsheets with years of history: a partner with migration experience.
- Custom Zoho Creator apps, Deluge functions or API integrations: a partner or developer.
If you hire a Zoho implementation partner, you can still use your free onboarding sessions. Book them early and treat them as training for the people who will own the system.
Does the answer depend on your country?
Yes, in three ways. First, Jumpstart availability varies by region, so a service offered in one country may not appear for another. Second, Zoho's higher support plans differ: Zoho's support plans page lists phone and chat support in your time zone only on its top Platinum tier, which has a minimum user count. Third, your data centre is set when you sign up, based on your location, and determines which domain your account uses, such as zoho.com, zoho.eu, zoho.in or zohocloud.ca.
Local tax setup also varies. Zoho Books handles sales tax in the US, GST in India and Canada, VAT in the UK, EU and Gulf, and e-invoicing in some countries. Whoever does the setup should configure these for your country before the first invoice.
What mistakes waste Zoho's free setup help?
These are the common ones:
- Letting the 15-day onboarding window lapse because nobody saw the booking email sent to the super admin.
- Attending sessions without a list of your own stages, fields and rules, so the time goes on generic demos.
- Expecting the support desk to build workflows, then waiting on tickets that are outside its role.
- Buying a higher support plan in the hope it includes configuration.
- Starting Jumpstart and a partner project at the same time without agreeing who owns which part.
A simple fix for most of these is to name one internal owner for the Zoho rollout on day one. That person books the sessions, collects requirements from each team, and decides which requests go to Zoho support, to Jumpstart or to a partner.
How does Flowpeak work alongside Zoho's own help?
We encourage clients to use Zoho's free onboarding and build on it. We handle the parts it excludes: process design, multi-app setup, Deluge, integrations and migrations. A standard Zoho CRM setup starts at USD 500, and most Zoho CRM projects go live within two weeks; integrations, complex workflows and Blueprints add time. We deliver remotely from Chennai, India. Frequently asked questions
Is Zoho CRM onboarding really free?
Zoho describes its CRM onboarding sessions as free for paid Zoho CRM customers. The page describes them for paid subscriptions rather than trials, and the sessions are valid for 15 days from the date of purchase. If you plan to use them, buy the subscription when your team is ready to attend.
Can Zoho support make changes in my account?
Zoho support helps with product questions and platform issues. Building your workflows, layouts and integrations is configuration work, which Zoho points customers to Jumpstart or partners for. If you are unsure, ask support directly whether a request is in scope before you wait on a ticket.
Is Jumpstart available for Zoho Books or Zoho One?
At the time of writing, Zoho's Jumpstart page lists Zoho CRM, Bigin, Zoho Desk, Zoho CRM Plus and Zoho Backstage, with a separate page for Zoho POS. The list may change, so check the page for current products. Zoho's Billing help page says Zoho does not provide implementation services for that product.
How do I find a Zoho partner?
Zoho runs a partner directory on its website where you can search for partners by location. Shortlist two or three partners, ask each for a written scope and references you can contact, and check whether they have worked with your combination of apps and your type of business.
What should I prepare before the first onboarding session?
Bring a short list of your sales stages, the fields your team fills in today, who should see which records, and a sample of the data you will import. With that in hand, the specialist can show you how Zoho CRM handles your real process instead of a generic example.
