By Harikrishnan, Founder & Chief Zoho Consultant, Flowpeak · 10+ years in Zoho · Published · Last updated

Zoho SalesIQ lets you build a website and messaging chatbot that answers from your own articles and FAQs, captures leads into Zoho CRM and hands visitors to a person when needed. You can use Answer Bot, a codeless Zobot with AI cards, or Zia Agents, powered by Zia or a connected model such as OpenAI, Claude or Gemini.

This guide is for owners and sales or support managers who want a chatbot that answers real questions, captures leads and passes hot conversations to a person. It covers the bot types in Zoho SalesIQ, where answers come from, a step-by-step setup, how leads flow into Zoho CRM, how handoff works, and what to know about Arabic, multilingual chats and WhatsApp for teams in the Gulf, Europe, North America and India.

What kinds of AI chatbot can you build on Zoho SalesIQ?

SalesIQ offers three main routes. Answer Bot is a prebuilt bot that answers from your SalesIQ resources or Zoho Desk knowledge base. The codeless Zobot builder lets you design a flow with cards, including AI cards that answer questions, collect details and branch. Zia Agents, added to SalesIQ in Zoho's Summer '26 release, can pick up chats on their own and bring in a person only when needed. Developers can also write script-based bots for unusual logic.

Most businesses start with a codeless Zobot that greets, qualifies and captures details, and add an AI answer step inside it. That gives you control over the questions that matter for sales, such as service needed, location and budget range, while still letting visitors ask open questions. Zia Agents are worth a pilot once your content and handoff rules are solid, because an agent that handles whole chats needs clear instructions, limits and regular review.

Where does the bot get its answers?

The bot answers from content you give it. Zoho's help lists SalesIQ articles, FAQs, small talk and webpages, or a Zoho Desk knowledge base. Using Desk requires the integration, Zia enabled in Desk and at least 30 articles. For each question, the bot retrieves up to five relevant resources and passes them to the AI to form an answer.

You choose the AI service. Zoho lists Zia, OpenAI, OpenAI Assistant, Anthropic, Google AI, DeepSeek or a custom service reachable by REST API. External services must first be connected to SalesIQ with your own account. There is also a separate ChatGPT card, but Zoho notes it answers from OpenAI's general knowledge, not your knowledge base, so keep it away from pricing or policy questions.

The quality of your content sets the ceiling. Short articles with one topic each work better than long pages that cover everything. Write them in the words customers use, keep prices and policies current, and check the answer-not-found log every week to see which questions need a new article. Zoho's Summer '26 release also lets Answer Bot learn from a pasted web URL, which helps you start, though your own reviewed articles remain the safer source.

How do you set up an AI chatbot in SalesIQ?

These steps follow Zoho's Answer Bot setup and add the CRM and testing work most teams need.

  1. Write or tidy 20 to 50 short articles and FAQs covering your top questions, pricing approach, service areas and policies.
  2. Connect Zoho CRM to SalesIQ and choose whether visitors go in as Leads or Contacts.
  3. Go to Settings, then Bots, then Answer Bot (or create a codeless Zobot), and select your brand.
  4. Name the bot, choose its languages and default language, and pick the departments it serves.
  5. Choose the AI service and the knowledge sources the bot may use.
  6. Set answer-found and answer-not-found messages, follow-up buttons and ratings.
  7. Set business hours, proactive greetings and how handoff to an operator works.
  8. Add fallback messages for when no operator is free, test every path in preview, then deploy.

How do chatbot leads get into Zoho CRM?

Through the built-in SalesIQ and Zoho CRM integration. During setup you choose to push visitors into CRM as Leads or Contacts and assign them to the operator who chatted or to a set CRM user. Zoho's help says each record then shows visit details such as pages viewed, referrer, time on site and visitor score, with chat transcripts attached to the visit.

Make the bot ask for name, email and one or two qualifying answers early, such as company size or service needed, so the CRM record is usable. Zoho says its Summer '26 release also syncs conversation summaries and tags to CRM. If you need custom rules after the lead arrives, set them up in CRM workflows. Our Zoho CRM implementation service covers that side.

How does handoff to a human work?

Zoho's help describes two handoff options in Answer Bot: a static link the visitor can use at any point, and conversational handoff when the visitor asks for a person. If nobody is free, the bot shows your fallback message and can collect details for a callback. You can also limit the bot to business hours or run it only after hours.

Zoho's Summer '26 release adds an AI-based router that reads sentiment, intent and topic to send chats to the right person. Agree on clear rules: hand off on pricing negotiation, complaints, and any visitor who asks twice.

Make sure operators see the bot conversation before they reply, so the visitor never repeats themselves, and set a target response time for handed-off chats.

Can the bot handle Arabic, other languages and WhatsApp?

Yes, with some setup. Zoho's help says SalesIQ supports 34 languages. The bot detects the language of the visitor's first message and uses it if configured, otherwise your default. Visitors can switch language from a dropdown, which restarts the chat. The bot only uses resources in the active language, so Arabic answers need Arabic articles. SalesIQ also supports right-to-left display for Arabic.

Zoho lists the AI cards as working on website, mobile app, Facebook, Instagram, WhatsApp, Telegram and LINE. WhatsApp needs a WhatsApp Business setup, and features can vary by plan, so check Zoho's pricing page for your region. If you handle personal data from the UAE, Saudi Arabia or Europe, confirm your obligations under local data laws with your lawyer.

Frequently asked questions

Can a SalesIQ bot answer only from my own content?

Yes. Answer Bot and the question answering card retrieve your articles, FAQs and webpages and answer from them. The separate ChatGPT card uses OpenAI's general knowledge, so use it carefully.

Which AI models can SalesIQ use?

Zoho lists Zia, OpenAI, Anthropic Claude, Google Gemini, DeepSeek and custom services through a REST API. External models need your own account connected to SalesIQ.

Will the chatbot create leads in Zoho CRM automatically?

Yes, once the SalesIQ and Zoho CRM integration is on. You choose whether visitors are added as Leads or Contacts and who owns them.

Does the bot switch languages mid-chat?

Not on its own. It detects the language of the first message, and the visitor can change language from a dropdown, which restarts the chat.

How long does a SalesIQ chatbot take to build?

A focused Answer Bot with existing articles can be ready quickly. A qualifying Zobot with CRM rules, several languages and handoff testing takes longer, so plan time for content and testing.
