By Harikrishnan, Founder & Chief Zoho Consultant, Flowpeak · 10+ years in Zoho · Published · Last updated

Zoho Contracts is Zoho's contract lifecycle management app. It covers drafting from templates and a clause library, approval workflows, online negotiation with counterparties, e-signature through Zoho Sign, a central repository, obligation tracking, renewal alerts and reports. Availability and signature options depend on your region and Zoho data center, so confirm with Zoho first.

This guide is for owners, finance leads, operations managers and in-house counsel at small and mid-sized companies that manage contracts in email, shared folders and spreadsheets. You will see what contract lifecycle management covers, what Zoho Contracts does at each stage, where it is offered, how it works with Zoho CRM and Zoho Sign, how it compares with Ironclad and Docusign CLM, and how to roll it out. Feature names follow Zoho's Contracts pages as of November 2026. This is not legal advice. Confirm legal requirements for your documents with your lawyer.

What is contract lifecycle management, and what does Zoho Contracts cover?

Contract lifecycle management, or CLM, means handling a contract from request to renewal in one system: drafting, review, approval, negotiation, signature, storage, obligations, amendments, renewal and termination. The aim is that anyone with permission can find the current version, see who approved it, and know what is due next.

Zoho Contracts covers each of these stages. Zoho lists a built-in word processor for drafting, legally approved templates, a clause library of pre-approved language, configurable approval workflows, online negotiation with version control and comparison, e-signature through Zoho Sign at no extra cost, a central repository with audit logs, obligation management with milestone tracking, automated renewal alerts and renewals, and more than 35 reports.

For a small company, the biggest gains are usually simple ones: one place to find the signed version, a clear approval trail, and a reminder before a contract renews automatically.

Zoho also lists templates and workflows for amendments, extensions, renewals and terminations, a mobile app for iOS and Android, and a ChatGPT integration for AI-driven insights.

What does Zoho Contracts do at each stage?

The table maps the usual CLM stages to the Zoho Contracts features Zoho describes. It helps you spot which stages your current process skips.

Is Zoho Contracts available in my region?

Check before you plan. Zoho's Contracts API documentation lists data centers in the United States, Europe, India, Australia, Japan, Canada and Saudi Arabia. Your account is created in one data center, and that decides where your contract data is stored.

If your company must keep data in a particular country, for example under a customer contract or a public sector rule, choose the data center before you create the account. Moving later is harder than choosing correctly at the start.

Availability is not uniform. Some features, integrations and signature options can differ by region and data center, and Zoho may not offer Zoho Contracts in every country or on every plan. Zoho says e-signature options depend on region and requirements: they include advanced and qualified electronic signatures, eStamping and Aadhaar eSign, the last two relevant in India. Ask Zoho or your partner to confirm what is live in your data center before you sign up.

How does Zoho Contracts work with Zoho CRM and Zoho Sign?

Zoho describes a deep integration with Zoho CRM, and a Zoho Contracts extension is listed on the Zoho Marketplace for CRM. In practice, sales teams can start a contract from a CRM record so customer and deal details flow into the draft, and status updates come back to CRM. Our answer on turning a sales order into a contract or renewal in Zoho CRM explains a common pattern.

Signing runs through Zoho Sign by default. If you already use Zoho Sign for simpler agreements, keep one Sign account and one set of signature settings for both, so signed copies and audit trails sit in one place. Companies standardized on Docusign can connect it instead, according to Zoho.

How does Zoho Contracts compare with Ironclad and Docusign CLM?

Ironclad and Docusign CLM are established CLM platforms aimed mostly at larger legal and procurement teams. Ironclad lists a no-code Workflow Designer, a searchable contract repository, Ironclad AI with several agents for review, intake, renewals and analytics, its own e-signature, and integrations with Salesforce, Microsoft Word, Slack, Teams, Coupa, NetSuite and SAP. Docusign lists dynamic templates, a clause library, a drag-and-drop workflow editor with over 100 pre-configured steps, an AI-powered repository, and integrations with Salesforce, SAP Ariba and Coupa.

Zoho Contracts covers the same lifecycle with a lighter setup and fits best where the business already runs on Zoho CRM and Zoho Sign. If your legal team needs deep AI review, procurement suite links or very complex routing, the larger platforms may justify their cost and setup effort. All three price by plan, and the enterprise platforms usually quote on request. Check each vendor's site.

What should you prepare before you import contracts?

Prepare the data that makes a repository useful. A folder of signed PDFs is not enough, because renewal alerts and reports need dates and owners in fields. For each active contract, collect at least:

  • Counterparty name and the linked customer or vendor record.
  • Contract type, internal owner and department.
  • Start date, end date, notice period and renewal terms.
  • Contract value and billing frequency, where relevant.
  • Key obligations and their due dates.
  • The signed copy and any amendments.

Start with contracts that renew or expire in the next twelve months. Older or closed agreements can follow in a second batch, or stay archived as files if nobody needs to report on them. Our Zoho data migration service covers this kind of structured import.

How do you roll out Zoho Contracts?

Most of the work is agreeing how contracts should flow, not configuring the software. Name one owner for the system, usually someone in legal, finance or operations, who approves template changes and new workflows.

  1. List your contract types, owners and current templates, and pick the two or three most frequent to start.
  2. Have your lawyer approve template wording and the clauses that may change.
  3. Map approvals by contract type and value, and keep the number of approvers small.
  4. Confirm your data center, signature options and the e-signature laws that apply, such as the ESIGN Act and UETA in the US, eIDAS in the EU, the Electronic Communications Act 2000 in the UK, or the Information Technology Act 2000 in India.
  5. Import active contracts with key dates first, so renewal alerts start working immediately.
  6. Connect Zoho CRM, run a pilot with one team, then extend.
