Zoho data residency in Canada: the Toronto and Montreal data centres
By Harikrishnan, Founder & Chief Zoho Consultant, Flowpeak · 10+ years in Zoho · Published · Last updated
Zoho opened data centres in Toronto and Montreal in November 2023, so Canadian businesses can keep Zoho data in Canada. The region is chosen when the Zoho account is created; Canadian accounts use the zohocloud.ca domain. Moving an existing account from another region is handled by Zoho, not as a self-serve switch, so decide before you sign up.

Many Canadian buyers, especially in healthcare, public-sector supply, legal and financial services, ask where their data will live. Zoho now has a clear answer for Canada.

Privacy laws to consider
- PIPEDA for private-sector organisations in most provinces
- Quebec Law 25, with extra rules on consent and transfers outside Quebec
- Alberta and BC private-sector privacy acts (PIPA)
- Sector rules for health information in some provinces
- Contract terms from your own clients
Data residency helps, but it is not compliance on its own. Access roles, consent, retention and audit settings matter too. This is not legal advice.
What we do for you
- Create the account in the Canadian region from the start
- Check that every Zoho app and integration you need works in that region
- Set access roles, audit logs and retention rules
- Document where data flows when third-party integrations are used

Frequently asked questions
Does Zoho have a data centre in Canada?
Yes, in Toronto and Montreal, since November 2023.
How do I make sure my data is in Canada?
Create the account in the Canadian region (zohocloud.ca) from the start.
Can I move my existing Zoho account to Canada?
Ask Zoho support. It is not a self-serve switch.
Does Canadian hosting make us PIPEDA compliant?
It helps, but compliance also depends on consent, access and retention settings and your policies.
Does it help with Quebec Law 25?
Keeping data in Canada can simplify transfer assessments. Confirm with your privacy adviser.
Will integrations keep data in Canada?
Not always. Third-party tools store data where they choose; we document these flows.
Can your team in India access our data?
Only with the access you grant, and you can remove it at any time.
Is this legal advice?
No.
