This guide is for owners and managers in the USA, Canada, the UK and Europe, the UAE, Saudi Arabia and India who use Zoho, or plan to, and want a clear picture of Zoho AI before budgeting for 2027. Zoho has announced a lot since July 2025, and the names overlap. You will learn what each part does in plain terms, what Zoho says is live today versus still rolling out, how Zoho charges for AI usage, and a sensible order for a small or mid-sized business to adopt it without wasting time or exposing data.
What is Zoho AI made of in 2027?
Zoho AI is not one product. It is a stack of parts that sit inside the Zoho apps you already use, such as CRM, Desk, Books, People and Workplace. Some parts work in the background, some you talk to, and some you build yourself.
The core announcement came on 17 July 2025, when Zoho launched Zia LLM, a library of prebuilt Zia Agents, a no-code agent builder called Zia Agent Studio, an Agent Marketplace and a Zoho MCP server. Since then Zoho has added agentic features across Workplace, Desk, Sign and Recruit, and an upgraded Ask Zia chat in Zoho CRM. The table below maps each part to what it does and who benefits most.
| Component | What it does | Who it helps |
|---|---|---|
| Zia | Zoho's AI assistant inside each app: predictions, suggestions, summaries and writing help | Every Zoho user |
| Zia LLM | Zoho's own language models, run in Zoho data centers, that power generative features | Businesses that want AI without sending data to an outside AI vendor |
| Zia Agents | AI workers that carry out multi-step tasks, such as reviewing a deal or drafting a ticket reply | Sales, support, HR and finance teams with repeat work |
| Agent Store (Marketplace) | A catalog of prebuilt agents you can hire and plug into Zoho apps | Teams that want a working agent without building one |
| Zia Agent Studio | A low-code, prompt-based builder for your own agents, with access to 700+ actions across Zoho apps | Operations leads and admins with a specific process to automate |
| Zoho MCP | Lets MCP-compatible AI tools such as Claude or ChatGPT read and act on Zoho data under your permissions | Teams that already use an outside AI assistant daily |
| Ask Zia | A chat window in Zoho CRM and Workplace for questions, how-to help and actions | Managers who want answers and reports without building them |
What do Zia and Zia LLM actually do for my team?
Zia is the assistant you see inside Zoho apps. In CRM it scores leads, flags unusual activity, suggests the best time to contact someone and summarizes records. In Desk it suggests replies and tags tickets. Much of this has existed for years and is included in many editions.
Zia LLM is the newer engine underneath the generative features, such as drafting emails or summarizing a long thread. Zoho's July 2025 announcement described three model sizes (1.3, 2.6 and 7 billion parameters) deployed in its US, India and Europe data centers, and said its models are not trained on customer data and do not retain customer information. In Zoho CRM, admins now see a Models page under Zia settings where Zoho's own model sits alongside optional outside models from OpenAI, Google, Anthropic and others, according to Zoho's help pages.
The practical point: if you never connect an outside model, generative features in supported apps can run on Zoho's own infrastructure. Availability still depends on your edition and data center, so check your own Setup screens.
How are Zia Agents and Agent Studio different from workflows?
A workflow follows fixed rules you wrote: when a deal hits a stage, send this email. An agent is given a goal, instructions and a set of allowed actions, and works out the steps itself. That makes agents better at messy tasks, such as reading an inbound email, deciding if it is a sales inquiry and creating a lead.
You get agents two ways. The Agent Store offers prebuilt agents; Zoho launched with more than 25, and its store page now says over 40 are available, with new ones added regularly. Examples Zoho has named include a Deal Analyser, a Candidate Screener, a Revenue Growth Specialist and a Resolution Expert for Zoho Desk. Agent Studio is where you build your own, using a prompt-first, low-code approach and Zoho's library of 700+ actions.
In Zoho CRM, Zoho's help pages describe two deployment modes. A Connection runs the agent under the person who deployed it. A Digital Employee gives the agent its own identity, role and profile, so its actions are logged separately and its data access follows the same permission model as a human user. We cover the build process step by step in a separate post in this series.
What is generally available, and what is still rolling out?
In July 2025 Zoho said Zia LLM would reach customers before the end of 2025 and that agents, Agent Studio, the marketplace and the MCP server would go from early access to general availability around the same time. Today the picture is clearer, but still uneven by app, edition and region.
At Zoholics USA in May 2026, industry coverage listed Zia LLM, the Agent Store, Agent Studio, the MCP server and Digital Employees as live. The Zoho MCP site now lets new users sign up and start straight away. Ask Zia's upgraded CRM chat was announced for Enterprise and Ultimate editions on the Next Gen UI, starting in the US data center. Zoho has also mentioned larger models, a reasoning model and agent-to-agent support as future work.
- Treat any feature as live for you only when you can see it in your own account.
- Expect US-hosted accounts to get some features first; EU, India, UAE, Saudi and other data centers can follow later.
- Check edition requirements; several AI features need Professional, Enterprise or Ultimate.
How does Zoho charge for AI?
Zoho has kept many built-in Zia features inside existing subscriptions. Its October 2025 agentic features for Workplace, Desk, Sign and Recruit were announced at no additional cost.
For custom agents, Zoho's Zia Agents pricing page says building, deploying and managing agents is free and you pay only for language model usage. Zoho-hosted models come with a free monthly token allowance, and use beyond that draws on prepaid credits in an Agent Wallet. If you bring your own key from OpenAI, Google Gemini or Anthropic Claude, the provider bills you directly for usage. Rates can change, so check Zoho's pricing page for your region before you plan a budget.
Zoho MCP itself shows a free sign-up, but the AI client you connect, such as a paid Claude or ChatGPT plan, has its own costs.
How should a small or mid-sized business approach Zoho AI in 2027?
Start small and boring. The businesses that get value from AI pick one measurable task, clean the data behind it and keep a human in the loop until results are steady. A sensible order looks like this:
- Turn on the Zia features already in your edition, such as summaries and email drafting, and see what your team uses.
- Fix your data first. Duplicates and empty fields give AI bad inputs; our Zoho audit service checks this.
- Pick one prebuilt agent from the Agent Store that matches a real bottleneck, and pilot it with one team.
- Decide your model policy: Zoho's own model only, or outside models for some tasks. Our guide to Zoho CRM AI integrations with OpenAI, Claude and Gemini covers the options.
- Build a custom agent in Agent Studio only once the pilot proves the value.
- Connect outside assistants through Zoho MCP if your team already lives in Claude or ChatGPT.
Check your privacy obligations before step 4, especially if you serve customers in the EU, UK, UAE, Saudi Arabia, India or US states with their own privacy laws.

Frequently asked questions
Is Zia LLM free to use?
Many built-in Zia features are included in existing Zoho editions. For custom agents, Zoho says agents are free to build and you pay for model usage above a free monthly allowance, so check Zoho's pricing page for your region.
Does Zoho train its AI on my business data?
Zoho states that its models are not trained on customer data and do not retain customer information. If you connect an outside model with your own API key, that provider's terms apply.
Do I need Zoho One to use Zia Agents?
No. Agents can be deployed into supported Zoho apps such as CRM and Desk, though some features need specific editions. Check your edition's feature list before planning.
Can Zoho AI work with ChatGPT or Claude?
Yes. Zoho CRM lets admins connect outside models with an API key, and Zoho MCP lets MCP-compatible assistants such as Claude act on Zoho data under your user permissions.
Which Zoho AI feature should a small team try first?
Start with the Zia features already in your edition, such as record summaries and email drafting. Then pilot one prebuilt agent on a single repetitive task before building anything custom.
