Zoho Sites vs WordPress: Which Fits a Small Business Website in 2027?
By Harikrishnan, Founder & Chief Zoho Consultant, Flowpeak · 10+ years in Zoho · Published · Last updated
Zoho Sites is a hosted, drag-and-drop website builder with hosting, SSL and native Zoho CRM forms included, so there is little to maintain. WordPress is open-source software with a huge plugin library and more design freedom, but on self-hosted installs you handle hosting, updates and backups. Choose by your team's time and needs.

This comparison is for small business owners and managers deciding where to build or rebuild their website, especially if they already use Zoho CRM or Zoho One. Both platforms can run a fast, professional site that ranks in search. They differ in who looks after the technical side, how far you can customize, and how leads reach your CRM. You will see how each handles hosting, design, SEO, forms, plugins and maintenance, plus a side-by-side table and a simple way to decide. We do not cover prices; check each vendor's pricing page.
What is the basic difference between Zoho Sites and WordPress?
Zoho Sites is a hosted website builder. Zoho runs the servers, and you design pages in a browser with a drag-and-drop editor, templates and sections. Zoho lists hosting, SSL, password-protected sites and a member portal as part of the product.
WordPress is open-source software licensed under the GPLv2. On WordPress.org you download it and install it on hosting you choose, or use a host that sets it up for you. WordPress.com is a separate hosted service built on the same software. This post compares Zoho Sites mainly with self-hosted WordPress, which is what most small business sites run.
How do hosting, security and maintenance compare?
With Zoho Sites, hosting and SSL are part of the service, and features such as page versions and auto-save help you roll back a mistake. There is no software for you to update.
With self-hosted WordPress, you pick a host that meets its requirements. WordPress.org currently recommends PHP 8.3 or greater and MySQL 8.0 or MariaDB 10.11 or greater. Someone then has to keep WordPress core, the theme and every plugin updated, run backups and watch security. Many managed WordPress hosts take on much of this work. If nobody on your team owns it, that is the main risk of WordPress for a small business.
Ownership is another difference. Because WordPress is open source, you can move a self-hosted site to another host with its files and database. A Zoho Sites site lives on Zoho's platform, so moving away later means rebuilding pages elsewhere. Neither is wrong, but decide knowingly.
Which gives more design freedom?
Zoho Sites gives you responsive templates, a drag-and-drop builder, prebuilt sections, dynamic backgrounds, animation and code snippets for custom HTML. Most small businesses can build a clean site without a developer, and the design stays within what the builder supports.
WordPress offers a very large choice of themes and page builders, and with a developer almost any layout or custom function is possible. That freedom also means more variation in quality and speed, so choose themes and builders carefully.
For content, Zoho Sites includes blogs, comment boxes, social share buttons and auto-publishing to social profiles. That covers a typical small business blog. WordPress started as a blogging tool and remains strong for large content libraries, categories, multiple authors and editorial workflows, especially with plugins.
Is Zoho Sites or WordPress better for SEO?
Both can rank well. Search results depend far more on useful content, page speed and links than on the platform. The difference is in how much control you have and how you get it.
Zoho Sites has page-level settings for title, description, keywords and noindex, plus custom page URLs. Its site-level SEO settings include 301 redirects, robots.txt, a sitemap.xml upload, Google Search Console verification, a Google Analytics measurement ID, a Google Tag Manager container and Bing Webmaster verification. Zoho's SEO help article does not describe built-in structured data settings, so plan to add schema through code snippets if you need it.
WordPress handles the basics in core, and SEO plugins add fields for titles, schema, sitemaps and redirects. Advanced technical SEO is often easier on WordPress, as long as the plugins are kept up to date. For conversion testing on either platform, see our guide to Zoho PageSense for conversion testing.
On either platform, write pages that answer the questions your buyers actually ask, keep images compressed, and check Google Search Console every month.
How do forms and Zoho CRM integration compare?
This is where Zoho Sites has a clear edge for Zoho CRM users. You create a webform in Zoho CRM, then add it in Zoho Sites as a Web-to-Lead, Web-to-Contact or Web-to-Case form. Zoho says submissions are stored in CRM as new leads or contacts. Zoho Sites also has a member sync with Zoho CRM for sites with a member portal, and you can embed Zoho Forms.
On WordPress you can embed the Zoho CRM webform code or a Zoho Forms form, or connect a plugin form through a connector. It works well, but it is one more moving part to test after updates. Our short answer on connecting Contact Form 7 or WordPress forms to Zoho CRM covers the options.
| Area | Zoho Sites | WordPress (self-hosted) |
|---|---|---|
| Hosting and SSL | Included and run by Zoho | You choose a host; SSL through the host |
| Updates and backups | Handled by Zoho; page versions and auto-save | Your team or managed host updates core, themes and plugins |
| Design | Templates, drag-and-drop sections, code snippets | Thousands of themes and builders; fully customizable with a developer |
| SEO controls | Page titles, descriptions, noindex, 301s, robots.txt, sitemap, Search Console | Core basics plus SEO plugins for schema, sitemaps and redirects |
| Zoho CRM forms | Native Web-to-Lead, Web-to-Contact and Web-to-Case | Embed CRM webform or Zoho Forms, or use a plugin connector |
| Extensions | Zoho integrations and code snippets | WordPress.org lists over 78,000 free plugins |
| Best fit | Lean teams already on Zoho who want low upkeep | Teams needing custom features, large content sites or specific plugins |
Zoho Sites also supports a member portal and access restriction, which is useful for client areas or resource libraries tied to CRM contacts. WordPress can do the same through membership plugins.
How much do plugins and extensibility matter?
WordPress.org says its directory has over 78,000 free plugins. If you need a specific booking system, membership tool, learning platform or niche integration, WordPress probably has it. Each plugin is also code to update and test.
Zoho Sites relies on Zoho integrations, code snippets and custom class names instead of a public plugin market. For many service businesses that is enough, because CRM, forms, analytics and email marketing already sit in Zoho.
Which one should a small business choose?
There is no single winner. The right choice depends on who will look after the site, how much custom functionality you need, and how important direct Zoho CRM integration is to your sales process.
We build and migrate Zoho Sites, connect WordPress forms to Zoho CRM, and set up redirects and tracking, on a fixed price agreed in writing. See our Zoho Sites implementation page for scope.
- Choose Zoho Sites if you run on Zoho CRM or Zoho One, want leads to land in CRM without connectors, and have nobody to maintain a website.
- Choose WordPress if you publish a lot of content, need a specific plugin, or have a developer or managed host to keep it healthy.
- Keep WordPress if your current site ranks well and works; connect its forms to Zoho CRM rather than rebuilding.
- If you do move platforms, map every old URL to a 301 redirect before launch to protect rankings.

Frequently asked questions
Can I move my WordPress site to Zoho Sites?
Yes, but pages and content usually need rebuilding in the Zoho Sites editor. Plan 301 redirects from every old URL so you keep search rankings.
Does Zoho Sites include hosting?
Yes. Zoho lists hosting and SSL as part of Zoho Sites, so you do not need a separate web host.
Can a WordPress site send leads into Zoho CRM?
Yes. You can embed a Zoho CRM webform or a Zoho Forms form, or connect your existing WordPress form plugin through a connector.
Is WordPress free?
The WordPress software is free and open source under the GPL, but you still pay for hosting, a domain and any premium themes or plugins you choose.
Can I add Google Analytics to Zoho Sites?
Yes. Zoho Sites has fields for a Google Analytics measurement ID and a Google Tag Manager container ID in its SEO settings.
