Why is barcode scanning unreliable in Zoho Inventory, and how do I fix it?

Most scanning problems are setup issues rather than Zoho faults: the barcode value does not match the field Zoho searches, the scanner adds or drops characters, the cursor is in the wrong field, or labels print poorly. Check which field your organisation uses for scanning, align your barcodes to it, configure the scanner's suffix, and test with clean labels.

Zoho Inventory matches a scan against an item field, such as SKU or a UPC, EAN or ISBN field, depending on your settings. If your labels encode one value and Zoho searches another, scans fail. Check the barcode setting in your preferences and pick one field to use for every item. Make sure the values are unique.

USB and Bluetooth scanners act like keyboards. If the scanner sends an extra prefix, misses the Enter suffix, or uses a different keyboard layout, the value arrives wrong. Scan into a plain text editor to see exactly what it sends, and adjust the scanner settings. Mobile scanning with the Zoho Inventory app depends on camera quality and lighting.

Print quality matters too. Low-resolution labels, glossy surfaces and very small barcodes misread often.
