Zoho offers several ways to build things, and they overlap just enough to confuse. The right choice saves money; the wrong one adds rework. Here is how we decide.

Zoho Creator: apps and forms

Creator is a low-code app builder. Choose it when you need forms, records, workflows, approvals, portals and reports for a process that no standard Zoho app covers, such as production tracking, inspections or a client portal. Logic is written visually and with Deluge scripting.

Zoho Flow: connecting apps

Flow is a visual workflow builder for moving data between apps. Choose it when a process crosses systems, such as a won deal creating a project, an invoice and a message, or when you need a multi-step approval across tools.

Zoho Catalyst: real code

Catalyst is a serverless platform for developers. Choose it for custom APIs, heavy processing, scheduled jobs or services that must run independently of any one Zoho app.

A quick rule

  • Need a screen for people to enter and see data? Creator
  • Need two or more apps to stay in sync? Flow
  • Need code, an API or heavy processing? Catalyst
  • Need logic inside CRM or Books only? Native workflows and Deluge functions

Combining them

Real projects often use more than one: a Creator app for the shop floor, Flow to push completed jobs into Books, and a Catalyst service for a courier rate lookup. We pick the lightest tool for each part so the system stays easy to maintain.

Frequently asked questions

Which is cheapest to maintain?

Native workflows and Flow are usually simplest to maintain. Custom code needs a developer, so we use it only when necessary.

Can non-developers edit Creator apps?

Yes, much of Creator is visual, though scripting changes should be controlled.

Do I need all three?

Most businesses need only one or two.
