Zoho Projects vs Zoho Sprints vs Jira: which should you use?

Use Zoho Projects for general project management with tasks, Gantt charts, timesheets and client billing. Use Zoho Sprints for Scrum-style software teams that work in backlogs, sprints and story points. Choose Jira if your developers need deep issue tracking and its large app marketplace, and Zoho integration matters less.

Zoho Projects is a general project tool. It covers task lists, dependencies, Gantt charts, milestones, timesheets, issue tracking and Kanban boards, plus client users and budgets. It connects to Zoho Books for billing time to customers. It suits agencies, consultancies, construction and internal operations teams that plan work against dates.

Zoho Sprints is Zoho's agile tool. It is built around a product backlog, sprints, story points, epics, velocity charts and burndown reports, with release planning. It suits small to mid-size software teams that follow Scrum and want to stay inside the Zoho ecosystem. Both Zoho Projects and Zoho Sprints are included in Zoho One.

Jira, from Atlassian, is the most widely used agile issue tracker for software teams. Its strengths are highly configurable workflows, strong developer tool links and a very large marketplace of add-ons. The trade-off is that it can take real admin effort to set up well, and it connects to Zoho apps only through integrations rather than natively.

A practical rule: if your company already runs on Zoho and the work is not mainly software, choose Zoho Projects. If you have a Scrum team and value Zoho integration, try Zoho Sprints. If your engineering team already lives in Jira, or needs its ecosystem, keep Jira and connect it to Zoho with integrations. Zoho Projects has a free plan for small teams, and Jira has a free tier too.

Key points

  • Zoho Projects: tasks, Gantt, timesheets, client billing via Zoho Books
  • Zoho Sprints: backlog, sprints, story points, velocity and burndown
  • Jira: deep, configurable issue tracking with a large marketplace
  • Projects and Sprints are both in Zoho One
  • Non-software teams usually fit Zoho Projects better than either agile tool
