Is Zoho Creator a database or a CRM?

Neither, exactly. Zoho Creator is a low-code platform for building your own business apps. Every app has a database underneath, plus forms, reports, workflows and portals on top. You can build a simple CRM with it, but if you need a standard sales CRM, Zoho CRM is the ready-made product.

Zoho Creator is a low-code application builder. You design forms, which create the underlying tables, then add reports, pages, workflows, approvals and customer or vendor portals. Logic is set with drag-and-drop rules and, for more advanced needs, Deluge, Zoho's scripting language. The result is a web and mobile app tailored to your process, such as job cards, inspections, admissions or order tracking.

It works like a database in that it stores records with fields, relationships and lookups, and you can search, filter and report on them. But it is more than a database, because the interface, automation and user permissions are built in. It is also not a CRM out of the box; there is no prebuilt sales pipeline, email sync or forecasting until you build them.

Is Zoho Creator good for beginners? A non-developer can build simple apps from templates or the drag-and-drop builder, and Zoho has added AI app generation from a description. Real business apps usually need Deluge for calculations, integrations and validation, which takes time to learn. Many companies start the app themselves and bring in a developer for the complex parts.

Is Zoho Creator worth it? It is good value when your process does not fit a standard product and you want it in one system without custom code from scratch. At the time of writing, Zoho offers a free edition limited to one custom app, then per-user paid plans. If an off-the-shelf Zoho app already fits, use that first; it will need less upkeep.
