How do I fix a Zoho Mail domain showing 'address not found'?

An address not found bounce usually means mail is not reaching Zoho, or Zoho has no mailbox or alias for that address. Check that your domain's MX records point to Zoho for your data centre, that old MX records are removed, that the domain is verified, and that the user, alias or group exists. DNS changes can take time to spread.

Start with MX records. Look up your domain with a DNS tool and confirm the MX entries match those in the Zoho Mail admin console, including the right data centre. If an old provider's MX records remain, some mail goes there and bounces. Remove them, and lower the TTL beforehand if you are changing providers.

Next, check Zoho. The domain must be verified and active, and the address must exist as a user, an alias or a group. A typo in an alias or a deleted user produces this bounce. If you want mail to unknown addresses delivered somewhere, set a catch-all, though that can attract spam.

Finally, read the bounce message. It names the server that rejected the mail, which tells you whether the problem is DNS or Zoho. If MX and mailbox are correct and bounces continue, send Zoho support the bounce headers so they can trace it.

Key points

  • Look up your MX records and compare them with Zoho's values.
  • Remove MX records from your old provider.
  • Confirm the domain is verified in the admin console.
  • Check the user, alias or group exists with the exact spelling.
  • Read the bounce to see which server rejected the mail.

Common questions

How long do MX changes take?

Often minutes to a few hours, but it depends on the previous TTL and can take up to a day or two.

Should I use a catch-all?

Only if you need it. It catches typos but also attracts spam.
