Should I use Zoho Analytics or Power BI for reporting on Zoho Books and Zoho CRM data?
For most businesses whose data lives mainly in Zoho Books and Zoho CRM, Zoho Analytics is the simpler choice. It has built-in connectors for both apps, syncs on a schedule and ships with ready-made reports you can edit. Power BI makes more sense when Zoho is only one of many sources and your company already runs on Microsoft tools and has someone who knows Power BI well.

Zoho Analytics connects to Zoho Books and Zoho CRM through native integrations. You pick the modules, set a sync interval and get tables that already understand how invoices, payments, deals and accounts relate. That removes most of the data engineering work. Power BI has no official first-party connector built by Zoho for these apps, so teams usually go through the Zoho APIs, a third-party connector or a data warehouse in between. That adds cost, setup time and one more thing that can break.
Power BI is strong in modelling, DAX formulas and sharing inside Microsoft 365. If your finance team already builds reports there and you also pull data from SQL Server, Dynamics or Excel files on SharePoint, keeping everything in Power BI can be the right call. Zoho Analytics can also import from many non-Zoho sources, including databases and cloud files, so check whether your other sources are on its connector list before deciding.
Before choosing, list the ten reports management actually reads, where each data point comes from, and how fresh it needs to be. Sync frequency depends on your Zoho Analytics plan, so check the current plan details. Also check who will maintain the reports in a year. A tool your team can edit itself usually wins over a more powerful tool only one contractor understands.
If you would rather have the dashboards designed and connected for you, Flowpeak Consulting can set up the Books and CRM sync, build the core reports with your management team and train your staff to change them. We work remotely, so the whole setup can be done over screen share in a few sessions.
Key points
- List the reports management needs and the source of every number in them.
- Check whether all your data sources are covered by Zoho Analytics connectors.
- Decide how fresh the data must be and confirm the sync interval on your plan.
- Consider who will build and maintain reports after the first setup.
- Pilot two or three key reports in your preferred tool before committing.
Common questions
Can Zoho Analytics combine Books and CRM data in one report?
Yes. Once both connectors are set up, you can join tables across the two apps, for example deals against invoices for the same account.
Can I use Power BI with Zoho at all?
Yes, usually through the Zoho APIs, a third-party connector or a data warehouse. It works but needs more setup and upkeep than a native connector.
