How do I migrate from Zoho Books back to Xero or QuickBooks if needed?

Export your data from Zoho Books, then load it into Xero or QuickBooks in a planned order: chart of accounts, contacts and items first, then opening balances, then open invoices and bills. Most businesses bring across only open items and balances at a cut-off date, not full history, and keep Zoho Books for read-only reference. Switch at a period end with your accountant.

Zoho Books lets you export most lists and transactions to CSV or Excel, and you can also export reports such as the trial balance, aged receivables and aged payables. Choose a cut-off date, ideally a month or year end, and export as at that date.

In the new system, set up the chart of accounts and tax codes, then import contacts and items. Enter opening balances from the trial balance. Import open invoices and bills individually so you can receive and pay them. Full historical transactions are possible with migration tools but cost more and are rarely needed.

Keep your Zoho Books subscription active for a period, or export full reports and documents before cancelling, so you can answer questions from auditors and tax authorities. Retention rules vary by country. Reconcile the new system's opening trial balance with Zoho Books before posting anything new.
