Why does Zoho Mail delete or block my email aliases?
Aliases usually stop working in Zoho Mail because of a domain problem, a plan limit, or a policy action. Common causes are domain verification or MX records changing, a downgrade to the free plan, the user account being deleted or disabled, or the alias being flagged for abuse. Check domain status and the admin console before recreating anything.

An alias is an extra address that delivers to an existing mailbox. It depends on the domain being verified and pointing its MX records at Zoho. If someone changes DNS, moves the domain to another provider, or the domain expires, mail to aliases and the main address can fail. Zoho may also flag a domain whose verification has lapsed.
Plan changes are the next cause. Free and lower plans have limits on features, domains and sometimes aliases, and downgrading can remove settings that only paid plans allow. If the user an alias belongs to is deleted or deactivated, the alias goes with it. Group addresses are often a better fit than aliases for shared inboxes like sales or support.
Zoho also blocks accounts that send spam or show suspicious activity, which can affect aliases used for sending. Check the admin console for alerts, verify the domain, confirm MX, SPF and DKIM records, and review the plan. If an alias vanished with no clear reason, contact Zoho support with the alias name, user and date so they can check the logs.
Key points
- Confirm the domain is verified and MX records point to Zoho.
- Check whether the plan changed or was downgraded.
- Confirm the owning user is still active.
- Look for security or abuse alerts in the admin console.
- Use groups for shared addresses instead of aliases where possible.
Common questions
Can I send from an alias in Zoho Mail?
Yes. Add the alias as a from address in the mailbox settings once it is created by an admin.
Is an alias the same as a group?
No. An alias delivers to one mailbox, while a group distributes mail to several members.
