How do I update task dates automatically when the project start date changes in Zoho Projects?

Changing a project's start date in Zoho Projects does not automatically move existing task dates. The reliable approaches are to link tasks with dependencies and shift the first task in the Gantt chart so successors move with it, to create new projects from templates so dates are set relative to the start, or to use a custom function or the API for bulk shifts.

Dependencies are the built-in way to keep a schedule together. When tasks are linked as predecessors and successors, moving one task in the Gantt view can move the tasks that depend on it. Set up finish-to-start links for your key tasks, then drag the first task to the new date. Check how your dependency settings handle weekends and lag time.

Templates help with repeated projects. If you save a project as a template with tasks spaced by duration, a new project created from it will lay out tasks from its start date. This is the cleanest option for agencies and service firms that run the same type of project often.

For existing projects without dependencies, bulk change is possible through a script. A custom function or the Zoho Projects API can read every task, add the number of days the project moved, and update the dates. Test it on a copy first.
